Former Governor of Delta Sstate, Chief James Onanefe Ibori is back in the country. Ibori was released from the UK prisons after serviing half of a 13 year jail term for money laundering. He was sentenced in April 2012 for laundering nearly 50 million pounds. Ibori’s wife and mistress were also sentenced to jail terms.
Ibori was arrested in Dubai in 2010 after he fled from a similar money laundering trial in Nigeria. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is yet to issue a statement regarding Ibori’s possible arrest. The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari made fighting corruption one of its cardinal points.
James Ibori was a two term governor in oil rich Delta state from 1999-2007. He was also alleged to have funded the campaign of late president Umaru Yaradua.
