The video above is quite worrying considering that Nigeria and Venezuela share a few things in common. The country depends a lot on oil for its revenues, have leaders that are socialist inclined and have churned out an inglorious list of bad government polices over the last few years.
As you can see from the video, thousands of Venezuelans are trying to cross the border to Colombia where they can get basic amenities of life that have become scare in the socialist country. All of this, a clear fall out of bad policies and stubborn governance.
As Nigeria awaits confirmation of an imminent recession, high interest rates, galloping inflation rates and security issues, the writing is clearly on the wall. If drastic solutions and actions are not taken as soon as possible, then we could be seeing even more similarities with Venezuela.
Nigerians who have seen this video are rightfully worried. Even more worried are our neighbours who could face a total takeover if Nigeria were to God forbid end up like Venezuela. For now we can only hope that the similarities start and end with a dwindling oil revenue, which neither side has much control over.
