- The Director General of the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON), Dr Joseph Odumodu, has assured members of the Lubricant Producers Association of Nigeria (LUPAN) that the agency will apprehend and prosecute producers and sellers of fake vehicle lubricants across the federation.
- Odumodu, who lamented the huge economic cost associated with peddling substandard lubricants, noted that the agency would work hand in hand with the Department of Petroleum Resources to increase the level of surveillance in the sector.
- The SON boss advocated monitoring the quality of lubricants produced in Nigeria, eradicating the sales of base oil as blended oil and other sharp practices associated with the sales of lubricants in Nigeria. He also suggested checking the influx of imported substandard lubricants into the market and profiling base oil import consigned as against its utilization to determine actual consumption to deal with cases of diversion.
