The equities market today took a breather shedding 1.55%, being its first loss in the week. The loss could be attributed to profit taking by some investors after days of position taking. Volume and value trended down by 1.89% and 27.22% correspondingly.

UBCAP, CAVERTON, ASHAKACEM, TRANSCORP, and CUSTODYINS led the gainers chart increasing 9.49%, 4.98%, 4.97%, 4.90%, and 4.74% respectively. On the losers end, HONYFLOUR and FO shed 5.00% apiece to top the list, while NCR followed losing 4.99%. GUARANTY and UBN both declined by 4.98%.

All NSE indices waned for the day, as NSEASI YTD return pegged at -10.93%. We believe that investors’ moved to offset prior losses in the market by keying into pocket of gains thus far. We however opine that the profit taking might be short lived, as investors will be compelled to tap into corporate actions as they are being released| Meristem
