Three Important Questions NOI Needs To Answer About Alleged N1.8tr Civil Service Salaries

The Minister of Finance was quoted as claiming Nigerians now spens N1.8 trillion on payment of wages for civil servants. It’s an astonishing increase from N857b in 2009. I am not surpiraed if you consider that the government has increased salaries of civil servants.

However, The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) raises some pertinent questions in a Thisday article that is what all the attention and response it requires.

1.Reacting to the statement, the ASCSN Secretary-General, Comrade urged the Finance Minister to state publicly how much of the N1.8 trillion is consumed by public office holders including ministers, special and ordinary advisers.

2.The union also demanded that the finance ministry publicise how much is been paid to Personal, Senior, and Junior Assistants, Senators, members of the House of Representatives including their homogeneous quarterly allocations.

3. It is also necessary for Dr. Okonjo-Iweala to tell Nigerians how much salary is paid by each Ministry, Department and Agency (MDA) per year including their staff strength.

When you have done these analyses, it will become crystal clear how much of the N1.8 trillion is consumed by the whopping emoluments of the political office holders,” the union stated.

Interesting questions right?
