Unity Bank Plc is a commercial bank in Nigeria with total assets of about N440billion. Unity Bank has a unique history of being the first and only Nigerian Bank to have emanated out of the Largest Merger and Consolidation in the History of the Nigerian Banking Industry with the merger of nine (9) financial institutions namely; Intercity Bank Plc, First Interstate Bank Plc, Tropical Commercial Bank Plc, Pacific Bank Limited, Centre Point Bank Plc, Societe Bancaire Limited, NNB International Bank Plc, Bank of the North Ltd and New Africa Bank Plc.
The Bank also has one other unique history, it has in its board one of the youngest Nigerian, particularly a lady to be on the board of a major commercial bank. She is no other than Dr Oluwafunsho Obasanjo (Not sure if she is related to the former president).
Dr. Oluwafunsho Obasanjo is about 28 years old and was appointed Non-Executive Director on Marc h 18, 2011. She was thus appointed to the board at a young age of 26 years old. She is also a scientist with insight in the areas of Molecular Biology/Biochemistry, Chemistry, Analytical Techniques and Bioinformatics. She obtained an M.Sc in Medicinal Chemistry from University College, London, United Kingdom and also holds a PhDin Bio-Organic Chemistryfrom the University of East Anglia.
