Dre Dre has been in the music business for over 20years and surely has made loads of money from it. Most recently though, his wealth hasn’t come from music making but from music listening. According to Forbes his trademark “beats by dre” head phones/speakers enabled the top produce/rapper to make a nicely $110m. He formed Beats by Dre with Jimmy Lovine after believing that fans need to “feel the emotion and hear the music the way artists intended it to sound from the studio”. So far the dream has paid off as the headphones has brought style and acceptability to a wider and younger market that was once dominated by premium sound companies and their elite market.
The guys reportedly sold a 51% stake in the company to HTC for $300m (N48b) making about $100m each. See Forbes for the full list of top earners
