ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE

A new report on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has flagged Nigeria and 13 other African countries for rising rates of drug-resistant infections, raising concerns over the continent’s capacity to manage hard-to-treat diseases. 
The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning about the escalating threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), predicting that it could claim 39 million lives by 2050 if urgent global action is not taken. 
Recent study on global Antimicrobial resistance projects that by 2050, antibiotic resistance is projected to directly cause 1.91 million deaths annually, with older populations of 70years and above being the most affected by this growing health crisis.
