Ripples from the Malabu case continue to spread all over the world. Italian prosecutors have asked that Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi face trial over the purchase of OPL 245 also known as the Malabu oil field. Eni, Shell former CEO Paolo Scaroni and 10 other people are also to face trial on the matter.
Eni, in a statement released a few hours ago, maintained the innocence of Descalzi and insisted that the company had not behaved in an improper manner. A federal high court in Nigeria ordered that the oil block be temporarily forfeited to the Federal Government. Eni and Dutch oil giant Shell bought Malabu for about $1.3 billion dollars in 2011.
