Nigeria’s hopes for a medal at the Olympics took another major hit as the women’s Basketball team, D’Tigress lost to Japan, 83-102.
The Nigerian female Basketball team had earlier lost their opener to the United States of America and then subsequently lost again to France (87-62) on Friday.
The Nigerian team were making a return to the Olympics since the 2004 edition in Athens, Greece.
With the win, Japan progressed to the quarterfinals, having won two out of their three group games.
In athletics, Tobiloba Amusan, running from lane 6 in the women’s 100 metres hurdles final at the Olympic Stadium finished fourth at 12.60 seconds, which was a top personal best for the 24-year-old Nigerian after having run 12.72 in round one and 12.62 in the semi-finals.
Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho won the event’s gold medal at 12.37 seconds, while Amusan will take part in the women’s 4 X100 Metres relay.
