US Embassy warns Nigerian visa applicants over fake documents, security threats

The United States Government has warned Nigerian visa applicants that fraudulent documents or information suggesting a potential security threat will lead to immediate action by the authorities, including a ban.

This disclosure is contained in a post on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the US mission in Nigeria on Monday, August 24, 2026.

This is coming barely a few days after Nigeria and 74 other countries got a reprieve as a United States federal judge struck down President Donald Trump’s visa ban on nationals from these countries — seven months after the policy came into effect.

What they are saying

The US mission said in the post that consular officers will alert all relevant US government agencies whenever they detect fraudulent documents during the visa application process or uncover information indicating that an applicant may pose a potential threat.

It said they are coordinating to protect national security as well as keep criminals out of the North American country.
