Over the last couple of hours, news headlines have rocked with the election of Fiona Ahimie as the 14th president of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS).
This also makes her the first female president to hold the role in the institute’s 34-year history, a landmark moment for Nigeria’s capital markets and a signal of shifting leadership dynamics in the financial services industry.
Ahimie’s elevation crowns a career built on deep market experience and steady progression through Nigeria’s equities ecosystem for about 15 years.
Her appointment comes at a time when Nigeria’s capital markets are seeking renewed investor confidence and structural depth, positioning her leadership as both symbolic and strategic.
Fiona Ahimie’s Early life and education
Ahimie’s academic and professional foundation reflects a blend of local expertise and global exposure.
She earned her accounting degree from the Lagos State University, before advancing her studies with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Lagos Business School between 2015 and 2017. During this period, she also completed executive education at IESE Business School in Spain.
She is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Stockbroker, qualifications that have underpinned her career across financial reporting, trading, and capital market operations. In addition to her academic achievements, she has contributed to knowledge development as a guest lecturer for MBA students at Lagos Business School.
Fiona Ahimie’s Career and Experience
Ahimie’s career in Nigeria’s financial markets spans over a decade, marked by progressive leadership roles across trading and brokerage firms. She began her career at Standard Bank Nigeria, where she worked as a sales trader from 2010 to 2013, gaining early exposure to equities markets.
She moved to FBN Capital (now part of FBNQuest Group), serving as a sales trader from January 2014 to May 2015. Her leadership trajectory accelerated when she joined African Alliance Limited, where she served as Head of Equities from May 2015 to April 2016, and later rose to Managing Director.
In April 2016, she briefly served as Head of Equity Sales & Trading at Cordros Capital Limited until August 2016, before joining FBNQuest Securities Limited in October 2016 as Head of Equities Brokerage a role she continues to hold.
Her leadership responsibilities expanded further when she was appointed Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FBNQuest Securities in January 2019, a position she has held to date, overseeing brokerage operations and market strategy.
