The South-South region of Nigeria is steadily positioning itself as a key destination for hotel, travel, and leisure experiences.
With its rich natural beauty, vibrant cultural heritage, and growing urban centers, cities like Port Harcourt, Calabar, Yenagoa, Uyo, and Warri are attracting both domestic and international tourists.
Coastal towns, riverine landscapes, and emerging entertainment hubs are creating unique opportunities for hospitality businesses to thrive, from luxury hotels to boutique resorts.
In this context, the region’s hotel industry is increasingly coming into focus, with plausible and clearly verifiable ownership structures highlighted in this report. While these examples do not represent the entire hotel population, they reflect some of the most eye-catching and high-profile establishments shaping the South-South’s hospitality scene.
Methodology
It is also worth noting that some high-profile hotels have recently come under regulatory scrutiny, with a few being sealed or temporarily closed, highlighting the evolving compliance and operational landscape.
Hotels whose ownership details could not be independently verified have been omitted from this list, but the establishments featured remain central to the region’s journey toward becoming a recognized travel and leisure hotspot in Nigeria.

Amba Hotels Limited is a privately owned hospitality company incorporated on August 21, 2013 (RC 1136333) with its registered address at 67 Ebisam Road, Akenga, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The company is owned and directed by members of the Wenapere family, led by Engr. Dio Ambakederemo Wenapere, alongside Finiere Irene Wenapere, Ebiere Tesini Wenapere, Lucky Wenapere, Faith Wenapere, and Blessing Wenapere.
The hotel represents a shift from the earlier assumption that it was a state-owned facility. Instead, it is a fully private venture built by a family with deep professional and administrative roots in Bayelsa and the wider Niger Delta.
Engr. Wenapere, an academic, engineer, and long-serving public sector professional has held roles including Secretary and now Chairman of the Bayelsa State Directorate of Project Monitoring and Evaluation, as well as technical and advisory positions within NDDC. His background in engineering and project management heavily informs Amba Hotels’ development approach.
