Pay-Tv operator, Multichoice Nigeria has announced another price increment across its DStv and GOtv packages by at least 19%.
Coming as the second increment this year after the first one was implemented on May 1, 2023, Multichoice said the latest increment takes effect from Monday, November 6.
While the increment announced in May was between 16.3% to 18, depending on the bouquet, the company is announcing a 19 to 20% increase across its packages this time.
New prices for DStv packages
According to the notice sent to its subscribers, customers on the DStv Premium package will be paying N29,500 for their monthly subscription starting from November 6, a 20% increase from the N24,500 they are currently paying.
The price of the Compact+ bouquet has also increased to N19,800 from N16,600 monthly, which is a 19% increment.
DStv said subscribers on its Compact bouquet will now pay N12,500 as against N10,500 they are currently paying, representing a 19% increase; while those on the Confam package are to pay N7,400, also a 19% increase compared to N6,200 currently being paid.
Under the new price regime, viewers on DStv Yanga bouquet will now be paying N4,200 for the monthly subscription, a 20% increase over N3,500 currently being paid.
New GOtv prices
For GOtv, Multichoice said customers on its Supa Plus package will now be paying N12,500, a 19% increase from the current price of N10,500. Its Supa bouquet will now go for N7,600 as opposed to the N6,400 currently being charged.
GOtv Max subscription has also increased to N5,700 from N4,850, while its Jolli package now goes for N3,950 from N3,300. Multichoice said its customers on the lowest GOtv package, Jinja, will now be paying N2,700 monthly, as opposed to N2,250 they are currently paying.
Pushed by inflation
While Multichoice has yet to make any official statement on the new price increment, the company cited economic challenges in May when it announced the first increment.
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) inflation rate in Nigeria increased to 26.72% in September from 25.80% in August of 2023.
- “Due to the various economic challenges impacting our business operations, we have had to review the price of our packages to continue delighting our customers with great entertainment, anytime and anywhere.
- “MultiChoice acknowledges the difficult economic climate and thus kept the increase at the lowest possible point whilst ensuring sustainability and provision of quality services,” it said in May.
So with all the bored movies
It’s time for me to leave DSTV and move to TVC then. DSTV yanga don too much, it’s not even pay as you go sef. TVC here I come. A lot of my friends have left DSTV tey tey. It’s not my money they’ll use to pay for BBN biko🚶🚶🚶🚶🚶🚶🚶
Dstv is really crazy, I don’t blame u guys but the government. A country without a good leaders, what do u expect.
Honestly it is becoming clear that i have to leave Dstv for my life sake in this economic bruhaha they have increased subscription twice in a year and our regulatory authorities are adamant to act.
If your regulatory agency has no benefits from DStv, perhaps their unreasonable increase at will would have been curtailed. Politicians that could have made their operating environment conducive for multichoice to maintain stable price are sleeping over what they would benefit from the company
U people keep on increasing the price of subscription and u are not giving us the latest movies that is rubbish i dont blame u sha i will keep it aside is not by force nw repeating the same old films fuck u people
It’s will be better for me now to stop subscribing for DStv and buy smart TV to view YouTube channel and Netflix and more.
This is serious. “Pay as you go” plan should be implemented immediately.
I Don leave DSTV be that. Fuck them all.
Watch ur local TV if u are worried. There is no by force watching here if u can’t afford bit Move On get urself Netflix. No one said it will be easy
Nigerians and complaining…smh
It’s a free (or free-ish) market. If you don’t like DSTV, feel free to vote with your feet and wallet. Meanwhile, only Nigerians and their weird notion of business would not understand why a company that mostly pays for rights in dollars would increase their rates when the Naira local currency subscription fees are paid in is free-falling against the dollar like a drunken sailor on speed.
But then again this is a nation that was selling fuel below the cost of production (or importation in Nigeria’s inept case) until it bankrupted its treasury – and of course has refineries and steel companies that produce NOTHING but pays thousands of employees.
Obviously not fault of Dstv. Inflation hitting hard on every being .
Na go dey loose constumers dey go. Na only dstv dey face economy Crisis? Are we not all being affected by the same economy Crisis. Dstv na scammer Dem be self. They keep on increasing their prices while Keep on repeating the same movie on there channels. They keep on increasing price without increasing channels. I do mistake wey I buy dstv ooo. Them just dey use our head . Keep on increasing. we go keep on looking for alternative
Is that the reason all the channel i paid for disappear? I paid 2250 for gotv jinger i was seeing a yoruba movie and suddenly it change to epic.
This is madness.
The solution to this is pay per view if this is implemented no problem
Very simple thing. DStv are thief’ bcs they know they are extorting Nigerians that’s why they refused to change to pay as you used. Secondly i don’t blamed them but the stupid government of Nigeria
TV with satellite is preferrrable to now. Imagine using 10,000 plus to subscribe and the limiting factors like epileptic power supply and increased fuel price are watching you. Omo no be small thing oo but wtin our leaders de look sef?
All of you are just making noise bad government. Election will come you will still vote for one Oldman that is forging certificate and forcing himself to be president. See, They are increasing it because they know you guys can’t do anything. The country is in the hands of dumb people. Lol
It’s obvious that I have to bid DSTV bye because the common man cannot enjoy their services. In as much as the inflation is a reason for this, I believe that our leadership have failed because they are major the beneficiaries of this crazy business policy. I have tried my best to keep up. But as it stands, am done. Netflix is better. We will watch football highlights on YouTube.
DSTV is extorting Nigerians. They are doing this because we have a clueless government. How can a service provider indiscriminately increase price without regulation by the government. Are we now at the mercy of Shylock service providers?
Seriously DSTV is just one of those addictions you can easily overcome. I dumped all pay TV for over six months now and nothing happened.
I don’t blame multichoice but the useless and insensitive govt and President who is clueless and he is short of ideas.
Go get free to air decoder and stop wasting your money watching repetitive programs. No politician buys airtime in Nigeria nor pays for subscription. Our leaders will never do anything about it because they are the major beneficiaries and Nigeria remains the biggest market for every organization in Africa and beyond .
This regime will favour me and my family!!! Hahahaha where those people wey talk am dey.
I have nothing extra to say… Supreme Court has given us a president I never voted for
This is purely acts of wickedness you guy don’t care about your customers to hell with your old entertenment.
Businesses are practically on dire straights since the Fuel Subsidy removal triggered sky rocketing inflation. Many don’t have option than to increase prices of services offered to keep afloat. Instead of blaming businesses, let’s appeal to.our govt to do something about this unbridled capitalism before it will destroy everything.
Honestly this is so serious any small inflation in the country everybody we started increasing, adding price at least they suppose to give people sometimes and see if it ill change or get worse after all the dollars is falling already. The worst part is that even though everything normal the price will still remain nothing dey come down in Nigeria
I won sell my DStv ooo very anyhow people, no light una dey increase money like evil people
It’s now become clearer that the masses are the one surfer from every decision made up there, the body that regulate this can’t tell us that they can ask them to stop this nonsense they are doing, but laslas there will be a way of eradicate this rubish we are facing as a nation, imagine foreign investor like multichoice are now taking masses advantage of us.Time will tell I know.
This kinds of things happen only in lawless societies and nations! MultiChoice in collaboration with our politicians that are beneficiaries are just taking advantage of us! It’s just too much! Increment twice a year, plus old movies! And all the regulatory bodies are just watching as Nigerians are raped in broad day light!
I personally believe that the Nigerian state and instruments of the law have failed hence this lawlessness! We have not yet been pushed to the point where our backs touch the wall because when and if it does, we all will respond appropriately! For now let us continue to suffer and die since we don’t want to fight and die. Better to die fighting than to die begging!
To hell with dstv
If I no watch from your decoder, I go die? To hell with you and your dstv.
Increments or no increment I know certainly when the wrath of God comes none of you will escape it for this purposeful suffering you make us all undergo. With your bad network you still have the mindset to talk about increasing your stupid packages whereby all you do is repetition of everything everyday. May God judge you all accordingly
With repetitive movies especially africa magic ROk TV infact you guyz are insensitive this is the second time this year. Haba God will never put us in shame. Honestly no program upgrade no bonus no benefits.
With all the boring activities, repetition of same dull movies every 2 to 3 days no new movies , no new activities and yet want Nigerians to pay through their nose yet some gullible people that are planted to defend them are doing their pay masters bid. We will mobilize ourselves to do away with dstv
May God help this country of ours SLTV here I come to hell with DStv that why there are intimidating other network in this country cos of bad government
