FBNH, NESTLE and MTNN trigger market recoil as bears regain dominance

FBN Holding, Nestle and MTNN have triggered a reversal of the All-Share Market Index following a four-day positive run.

The three declined in share prices and altogether traded over 69 million units valued at N1.41 billion, impacting the broad market to decline by 0.71% at the end of the trading session.

After 5 positive trading days last week and breaking a three-year high record, FBNH declined by 7.48% in share price today from N12.70 to N11.75 per share. The bank traded 67 million units of shares, value at over N832 million.

Nestle’s share price depreciated by 5.07% from N1,480 to N1,405 at the end of today’s trading session, trading 231,823 units of shares valued at N325.59 million.

MTNN Plc share price declined by 2.86% from N174.90 to N169.90, trading a total of 1.51 units of shares valued at N256.38 million.

Market Performance

The Nigerian Exchange market closed on a negative note amidst sell-offs and buy-interests as the benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 71 basis points.

The NGX ASI closed at 41,114.67 points, to reflect a decline of 0.71% from the previous trading day and a Year-to-Date (YTD) return of 2.10%. Meanwhile, the market capitalization decreased by N153.15 billion.

At the close of market today, Monday, 18th October 2021, the stock exchange market value currently stands at N21.47 trillion from N21.62 trillion in the previous trading day.

The market breadth closed negative as NGXGROUP led 20 Gainers, and 21 Losers topped by MAYBAKER at the end of today’s session.

The stock market has advanced 843.95 basepoints since the start of the year.

  • NGXGROUP up +9.86% to close at N19.5
  • IKEJAHOTEL up +9.52% to close at N1.15
  • CUSTODIAN up +7.53% to close at N7.85
  • HONYFLOUR up +6.48% to close at N3.78
  • CHAMS up +4.55% to close at N0.23

  • MAYBAKER down –8.02% to close at N4.36
  • ROYALEX down –7.81% to close at N0.59
  • NPFMCRFBNK down –7.57% to close at N1.71
  • FBNH down –7.48% to close at N11.75
  • MBENEFIT down –6.67% to close at N0.28

Market sentiments trend towards the bears with the market differential being in favour of the decliners as 20 gainers were surpassed 21 losers.
