Covid-19: 640,454 persons receive Moderna first shot, 56,582 get second dose of AstraZeneca – NPHCDA

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, has announced that 640,454 Nigerians have received their first shot of the Moderna vaccine as at Thursday, September 2nd, 2021, in 36 States and the FCT.

This was disclosed in a statement by the NPHCDA on Thursday evening as it added that 56,582 eligible Nigerians vaccinated with the 1st dose have collected their 2nd dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

This means Nigeria has used 32% of its first dose proportion for the Moderna vaccine and 8.1% of its AstraZeneca second dose.

On the Moderna first dose, Lagos State leads with 108,429 vaccinated so far, followed by Oyo state at 47,424 so far. The Federal Capital Territory has vaccinated 12.054 so far.

Kogi remains the only state yet to give out a shot of the Moderna vaccine.

On the second dose of AstraZeneca, Lagos State also leads with 11,119 vaccinated so far.

Bauchi, Borno, Kogi, Yobe and Zamfara are yet to give out a second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

What you should know

On the 2nd of August, 2021, Nairametrics reported that Nigeria’s fights in the rising 3rd wave of COVID-19 got a boost as the Federal Government announced the arrival of the 4,000, 080 doses of Moderna vaccine, donated by the United States of America through the COVAX facility.
