Not many Nigerians were surprised when Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, confirmed that there are 74 new cases of coronavirus in the state yesterday. But several were shocked when NCDC in its latest claimed that the state only had 4 new cases on April 25.

Ganduje, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Kano, said out of 489 samples taken to laboratories for tests, 74 tested positive. He said: “We have taken samples of 489 people, out of these number 74 were confirmed positive for the virus.”

Prior to this confirmation, Kano State had 73 confirmed cases of coronavirus. Consequently, the new figure has pushed the state’s overall total to 147, the highest in the country after Lagos.

Considering the increasing mortality rate witnessed in the state, several Nigerians took to Twitter alleging that something must be wrong with NCDC’s figures and some of them even claimed the agency’s numbers are rigged.
