Nigeria Stock Market ASI goes south after Democracy Day

The Nigerian bourse slipped south on Thursday, just after the Democracy day celebration. The Nigerian Stock Exchange All Share Index closed at 30,029.15 basis points and it’s down by 0.23%.

Year to date, the index is down 4.46%.

Top gainers: GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria Plc was the best performing stock today. The stock gained 9.15% to close at N8.35. May and Baker Nigeria Plc gained 6.33% to close at N2.35. Guaranty Trust Bank Plc gained 0.98% to close at N30.8. Forte Oil Plc gained 0.94% to close at N26.75. Nigerian Breweries Plc rounds up the top five gainers for today. The stock gained 0.88% to close at N57.5.

Top loser: On the flip side, C & I Leasing Plc was the worst performing stock, declining by 9.87% to close at N6.3. Presco Plc fell by 5.17% to close at N55. UAC of Nigeria Plc fell by 3.13% to close at N6.2. Dangote Sugar Plc fell by 2.73% to close at N10.7. Dangote Cement Plc rounds up the top five losers for today. The stock shed 1.08% to close at N183.

Top Trades by Volume: Guaranty Trust Bank Plc was the most actively traded stock today. 78.2 million shares valued at N2.4 billion were traded in 264 deals. Zenith Bank Plc was next with 33.9 million shares valued at N681 million traded in 394 deals. United Bank of Africa Plc was next with 25.4 million shares valued at N158 million traded in 139 deals.

18 million shares Ecobank Transnational Inc valued at N176 million were traded in 51 deals. MTN Nigeria Plc rounds up the top five most actively traded stocks today with 9.4 million shares valued at N1.2 billion traded in 137 deals.

Corporate action: Portland Paints and Products Nigeria Plc announced the appointed of Mrs Bolarin Okunowo as a non-executive director on its board. Her appointment was effective from May 29, 2019.
