Ashaka Cement Company Plc, a subsidiary of Lafarge Holcim has discovered additional coal and limestone in Funakaye local government of Gombe State that will sustain the company for the next 50 to 100 years.
The Chairman of the company, Malam Suleiman Yahaya said the management of the company has approved the construction of the road to Maiganga, the location of their coal mine. He noted that they would also establish an independent power plant using the coal in Maiganga and the coal in the new quarry just discovered near their plant.
“We will start generating power within the next 24 months, provide power to Ashaka and excess power to the grid, so that the people of Gombe will have independent power supply in the future,” he said.
