- The management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, headed by its Group Managing Director, Dr. Emmanuel Kachikwu, is to commence meeting with key officials of unions in the sector as well as the entire workforce of the national oil firm beginning from today.
- It should be recalled that workers in the sector, under the umbrella of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, had expressed reservations over the approach being used to implement the reform programme in the oil and gas industry by the NNPC management, saying that they were not being carried along in the process.
- They had  also challenged Kachikwu to recover the stolen trillions of naira rather than “retiring and sacking innocent workers” which they describe as an act of “cover-up”
- It was gathered that the GMD had scheduled to meet with the unions as well as workers in order to address the workers’ concerns.
- Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the corporation, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, allayed fears that the restructuring at the firm would warrant mass sacking, as speculated by many workers.
- Kachikwu, according to a statement from the corporation, stated that the mandate given to him by President Muhammadu Buhari was to turn around the entire commercial processes and procedures in order to impact on the growth trajectory and operations of the corporation.
