Director-General, National Automotive Council (NAC) Mr. Aminu Jalal, has disclosed that €11.6 million has been earmarked for the construction of four vehicle testing laboratories in Nigeria.
Jalal , who disclosed this at the official signing ceremony of the contract in Abuja, said that the laboratories are: emission, vehicle component, vehicle materials and vehicle evaluation.
When completed, the centres will enable Nigerians to ensure that all vehicles and components that are sold in Nigeria conform to safety and emission standards. He added that it will also help the country develop local content.
“Essentially, these are test centres which will test all the safety components of vehicles.
When test centres are ready, we can immediate go and test and if it fails tell the manufacturer why it failed. It will also benefit us as it will help them test what they have built,” he said. “Parts like brakes, windscreen, tyres, lights, seatbelt and so on would be made to conform to all the safety standards.
