What you should know

The West African Examinations Council is one of the largest examination bodies in West Africa, responsible for conducting major secondary school examinations, including the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

  • The recruitment comes as the Council continues to strengthen its administrative and technical capacity, particularly in ICT and examination management, amid growing candidate numbers across the region.
  • In recent years, WAEC has increased its focus on digital processes, including computer-based testing and improved result processing systems, as part of efforts to enhance efficiency and credibility in its operations.
  • Recently, the Council released the results of 10,480 candidates for the 2026 Computer-Based WASSCE for private candidates, showing that 32.72% of candidates obtained five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, reflecting an improvement from previous years.

The examination was conducted between January 28 and February 14, 2026, across 166 centres nationwide, with marking carried out in Lagos, Enugu, and Kaduna by over 600 examiners.
