Daily covid-19 cases in Nigeria surges as Delta State records 508 new cases

Delta State recorded a surge in its number of daily covid-19 cases as 508 new patients for the disease emerged on Monday, 25th October 2021, driving a significant increase in the total cases recorded in the country.

This is according to information obtained from the website of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The number of daily cases of the covid-19 disease in Nigeria skyrocketed on Monday to 711 new cases owing to the significant increase in the number of new cases recorded in Delta State. This represents a 331% increase compared to 165 cases recorded in the previous day.

According to the NCDC, the 711 new cases were reported from 15 States- Delta (508), Plateau (41), Rivers (40), FCT (32), Enugu (24), Lagos (19), Imo (16), Cross River (9), Ekiti (9), Abia (4), Benue (3), Kano (3), Bauchi (1), Bayelsa (1) and Ogun (1).

Delta State accounted for 71% of the total recorded cases on Monday, while Nigeria has now recorded 211,171 confirmed cases of the disease, representing the 8th highest in Africa behind Kenya (252,688), Egypt (325,508). South Africa tops the list with 2.92 million cases from inception to date.

Meanwhile, 202,674 cases have been discharged and 2,884 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, leaving the remaining 5,613 active cases.
