Dr Maikanti Baru, former Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) died on Friday night. The sad news was announced through a press release on NNPC’s Twitter handle earlier this morning.

Dr. Baru, who died at a hospital in Abuja after a brief illness, was the 18th Group Managing Director of NNPC, serving from July 4, 2016, to July 7, 2019.
The news about Baru’s death was received with great sadness by the present NNPC GMD, Mele Kyari, who tweeted:
My brother, my friend and my mentor, Dr Maikanti Kachalla Baru, immediate past GMD of NNPC died late last night. He was of exemplary character and disposition. May Allah forgive him and have mercy upon him.
