The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 25 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) for April 3, 2020. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 209.
This is a correction to the initial error, where the NCDC reported a total of 26 new cases of the coronavirus disease for April 3, 2020. This would have brought the total number of cases that are positive to 210.
The NCDC said in its tweet that the one case that was erroneously reported was a repeat result of an earlier reported case and not a fresh one.
In the tweet, the NCDC said, “On 3rd of April 2020, we reported 26 new cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria,” the NCDC said in a tweet. “An error has been discovered in this report as follows:
“There were 25 new cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. The 26th case was a repeat result of a previously confirmed case and NOT a new case.
“Of the 25 new cases reported, 1 case was inadvertently reported from Osun state. This case was from OYO STATE The correct breakdown is as follows: Lagos- 11 Osun- 6 FCT- 3 Edo- 3 Ondo- 1 Oyo- 1.”
“We regret the error in our announcement of new #COVID19 cases in Nigeria yesterday,” the agency said. “The NCDC remains committed to ensuring transparency and accurate reporting of infectious disease cases in Nigeria.”
A breakdown of the 25 new cases of the coronavirus disease shows that Lagos has 11 cases, 3 were discovered in Federal Capital Territory, 3 were discovered in Edo State, 6 in Osun State, 1 in Ondo State and 1 in Oyo State.
Meanwhile, 2 new deaths were reported in Lagos and Edo States
According to the health agency, as at 10:30 pm on April 3, there were 209 confirmed cases, four deaths, and 25 recoveries.
The NCDC is still assuring Nigerians that measures are being put in place to control the spread of the deadly virus and advised them to observe the government’s restriction order.
