The Ondo State Government has announced the dissolution of the boards of several parastatals and commissions following the expiration of their tenure, with immediate effect.

The development was disclosed in a press statement issued on April 28, 2026, by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and published on the government’s official X page.

The government also confirmed that the tenure of Education Secretaries across the 18 Local Government Areas has expired.

What they are saying

According to the statement, the dissolution affects key institutions, including the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Ondo State Local Government Service Commission, Ondo State Muslim Welfare Board, and Ondo State Christian Welfare Board.

The state government directed all affected chairmen, commissioners, board members, and education secretaries to hand over to the most senior administrative officers in their respective offices.

  • “The Ondo State Government announces the expiration of tenure and consequent dissolution of the Boards of some Parastatals and Commissions in the State, with immediate effect.
  • ” Also affected with the expiration of tenure are the Education Secretaries of the 18 Local Government Areas of the State,” the statement read.

It added that the affected officials are expected to complete a smooth transition of responsibilities in line with administrative procedures.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed appreciation to the outgoing officials for their service and contributions to the development of the state during their tenure.

What you should know

The dissolution follows the completion of statutory tenures for appointees across the affected boards and commissions. Such transitions are common in state administrations, where board appointments are tied to fixed terms and are subject to renewal or reconstitution upon expiration.

State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) oversee the implementation of basic education policies and the management of funds for primary and junior secondary education.

The Local Government Service Commission is responsible for personnel matters across local councils, while welfare boards coordinate religious activities such as pilgrimages.

The dissolution signals that new appointments or reconstituted boards are likely to be announced in the coming weeks.

Broader political restructuring is also happening at the federal level under Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly through cabinet adjustments aimed at strengthening governance.

Nairametrics reported that the President approved a minor cabinet reshuffle in April 2026, which led to key changes within the Federal Executive Council.

  • The reshuffle saw the exit of former Finance Minister Wale Edun, Taiwo Oyedele was elevated to Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
  • Former Housing Minister Ahmed Musa Dangiwa was replaced with Muttaqha Rabe Darma to lead the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development
