The Legal Practitioner’s Privilege Committee (LPPC) has elevated 72 legal practitioners in Nigeria for conferment of the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to be sworn in by Justice Tanko Muhammad, the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
This was announced in a statement on Thursday by Hajo Sarki Bello, the acting Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, who doubles as the secretary of the legal practitioners privilege committee.
According to her, the SANs-designate are made up 62 on the advocate category and 10 in the academic category.

- Those to be conferred include amongst others; Anthony Ojukwu, the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC); Olawale Fapohunda, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ekiti State; Ikeazor Akaraiwe, former vice-president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), as well as Emeka Obegolu, former NBA general secretary.
- According to the statement, the of rank Senior Advocate of Nigeria is awarded as a mark of excellence to members of the legal profession who have distinguished themselves as advocates and academics.
- The inauguration ceremony will be held at the Supreme Court premises in Abuja on December 8, 2021.
- The Committee has set up a subcommittee to review 2018 guidelines for the awards of the rank which will take effect from 2023 application year.
