The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has disclosed that 11 states have responded to the federal government’s request to waive the charges for Right of Way (RoW) to facilitate broadband infrastructure expansion. 
The Federal Government is targeting the planned deployment of 90,000 kilometres of fiber-optic cable across Nigeria to start within the next six months.  
Nigeria is set to miss the 70% broadband penetration set in its National Broadband Plan 2020-2025, a development that could cause setbacks for the economy, especially in the area of digital transformation.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has referenced a statement from the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu that Right-of-Way problems and others were hindering the progress and completion of up to 120 projects in the power sector across the country.
The FG has directed State Governors to remove Right of Way (RoW) barriers in order to fast-track the expansion of the national grid.
The reduction takes immediate effect and affects all local government areas in the state.
Ekiti state government has slashed the right of way charges for telecommunications infrastructure from N4,500 to N145 per meter.
