In a recent notice to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Oando Plc has announced the appointment of Alhaji Bukar Aji as a non executive director. The move comes fresh of the heels of the company’s peace accord with Dahiru Mangal, suggesting he may be his representative on the board.
Alhaji Bukar Aji attended Sabon Gari Primary School, Gashua between 1971 and 1974. After that he proceeded to Government College Maiduguri, graduating in 1979. Following this, he attended Borno College of Basic Studies from 1979 to 1981, and the University of Maiduguri from 1981 to 1984.
Career
Aji began his workin g career as a lecturer at the College of Education, Gashua from May 1985 to April 1986. He then worked in the Public Complaints Commission, Maiduguri from April 1986 to June 1988. He had a stint aas an Assistant Registrar at the College of Legal and Islamic Studies from April 1988 to June 1989, after which he was appointed as Chief Admnsitrative Officer, Governor’s Office Maiduguri, where he worked from April 1989 to March 1991.
He worked for 4 years as the Principal Secretary, Governor’s Office Maiduguri, before transferring to the Federal Civil Service in 1995.Alhaji Aji was the Director Planning Research and Statistics, Federal Minsitry of Women Affairs from April 1995 to June 2000, then Director Personnel, Federal Minisitry of Defence from July 2000 to April 2001.
In April 2001, he was appointed Director of Admin and Supplies Department where he worked till May 2002. In July 2002, he was appointed Director of Army Affairs Department, Federal Ministry of Defence. He was in this office till April 2008, when he was appointed Director in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Notable Achievements
From May 2009 till August 2009, he was the Permanent Secretary Minsitry of Defence. In August 2009 till May 2010, he was Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Police Affairs. From May 2009 till March 2012, he was Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of transport.
Alhaji Aji was appointed Head of Service of the Federation on Monday 25th March 2013, a position he occupied till his retirement on 18th August 2014.
