The Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Dame (Dr) Adaora Umeoji, has built and donated a world-class building for the use of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Dobi, Abuja.

The commissioning/dedication of the new parish building to the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja took place recently.

Speaking at the commissioning, Dame Umeoji said, “I’m here to hand over the keys of this new edifice for the continuous spread of the word of God.

“We pray that this will be able to do more and encourage others to do more for the diocese and for the men of God.” The Herald learnt that Umeoji was moved to build and donate the new church building after the temporary edifice used for worship at the church was destroyed by a windstorm on May 17, 2018. The temporary church building was destroyed by windstorm

She was said to have been approached to support a new building project for the parish. It was learnt that she looked at the building plan and remarked that the proposed structure was not befitting of God, requesting that a more sophisticated architectural drawing be designed.

Dame Umeoji’s desire to assist the parish to build a new and more befitting church building was an offering to God for the healing of her beloved mother, Chief (Lady) Ngozi Umeoji, it was further learned.

However, her mother’s eventual passing on to glory did not make her renege on her promise to help build a new structure for the people of God to worship. She said that she felt that God wanted her mother to now live through the church.

“I dedicate this church to the blessed memory of my late mother, who encouraged me so much to get this fulfilled,” Dame Umeoji added. Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, His Grace Ignatius Kaigama accepted the donation on behalf of the church.

Africa mentality, instead of promoting the society real productive sectors of economy such education, agriculture, infrastructure, employment etc.
A question for for elites, is this project “dependent or independent?” That is my point of view, not in religion aspect. Every where big mosques and many very big churches and increase in criminality such as kidnapping, banditry, ritual killing, boko haram, yahoo yahoo, high places CORRUPTION, robbery etc
The question church and society need to ask DMD. Is the funds, financed this project from her salary? NIGERIANS fooling themselves, hope fooling, Almighty GOD.

I think she has the right to decide what to do with her money. Charity has no sectorial boundaries and can therefore be made in any area of life, depending on the donor’s interests and inspirations. And with that kind of heart, she most likely may have given to other worthy causes in the past too. Finally, with regards to whether she can afford it, I believe that the active and passive income ascribable to her status and shareholding in such a big bank should more than pay for the project even if she didn’t enlist people from her circles to assist her.

You nailed it . We are always ahead of our self , jump in to conclusions often without due considerations . She not only has the right to spend her money as she pleases , it is also safe to say she has also lifted others with her substance
Thank you for your response to the harsh critique of her donation

You ask me: Has her gesture many any one happy? It is glaring that her gesture has made many many happy. And no one has said the gesture was a pain to them.
      That’s what counts dear Kuranga.

SME would have been pretty impactful more. Inside the edifice on a weekly basis, they would be fervently praying for jobs, strong economy & Fx, where as we refused to produce. All the so called sophisticated materials must have been imported, worsening the economic situation of the country.

Doesn’t seem to be a good thing. Where corporate governance is concerned she needs to explain how she came about this money. It could be shareholders funds which may lead to collapse of the bank
