Diary of a working mother: A season of gratitude

I am thankful for small things, big ones and the often likely to be forgotten ones that are comfortably seated in the middle. A lifestyle of gratitude is often likened to a large dose of positive energy that is as infectious as it is therapeutic. Nearing the end of each year signals reasons for one to be thankful and even more.

Last week saw me in the middle of the annual appraisal session and I exceeded target on all fronts making it an outstanding one as always in several appraisal cycles. That is a solid reason to remain thankful but this year came with a remarkably special twist. The appraisal session afforded one an opportunity to actually learn the real meaning of the word, appraisal and to discover the finer elements of productivity and self-discovery.

With the flawless joy, coupled with the big bang entry of one of my favorite music groups, The Gratitude into the music scene with the launch of their Hello World album, it was a super joyful week for me. Even more remarkable was an acquaintance, Sola Adio coming to Abuja for a relationship conference that I attended and gleaned so much knowledge from. In all, it was one of those weeks that you look back to with nostalgia and just thank God for being awesome.

Diary of a working mother: Do you really need a mentor to succeed in the marketplace?

I once read about having a gratitude jar that allows one the opportunity to pen daily notes of gratitude and dropping in it to ensure total recall at the end of the year. This seems like a really cool thing to do and I have already made a mental note to do so. It will be a sheer delight to read up the notes at the end of the year and find out just how thankful one can be regardless of the daily hustle and bustle.

The finer point about being grateful for all and everything is the fact that you become more joyful, more loving and happier. It is like a tonic that just bubbles from the inside and radiates on the outside with a glow of gladness. There is always a reason to be thankful irrespective of how the day might have turned out. It could just be that slight window of recall of an old event that warms you up and awakens so much joy in you.
