- President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed the former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, as the new chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
- Obi’s appointment was announced yesterday, and according to the presidency, his appointment takes immediate effect.
- Jonathan also approved the confirmation of Mr Mounir Gwarzo as the substantive director-general of the commission but the confirmation is subject to the approval of the National Assembly.
- Gwarzo, who has been in acting capacity, was appointed to the board of the SEC as an executive commissioner in January, 2013. Obi, the immediate past governor of Anambra state, takes over from Dr Suleyman Ndanusa who was appointed the chairman of the commission in December 2012.
