Finserve’s Jack Ngare joins Microsoft as new MD

Finserve Africa Limited’s boss, Jack Ngare has been appointed as the first Managing Director of Microsoft’s newly launched Africa Development Centre (ADC), a research facility in Nairobi, Kenya.

Ngare joined Microsoft after serving as the Managing Director of Equity’s virtual mobile money operator, Finserve, for one and a half years.

Speaking on his appointment, Ngare said it’s an incredible opportunity to join an organisation that is truly committed to empowering people globally.

“I can’t wait to start my new journey as managing director and proud to lead such a talented team in Nairobi. I also look forward to welcoming many more talented engineers to the centre as we all embark on this wonderful digital transformation journey.”

Ngare’s profile: Ngare has been in the technology business for more than 15 years. He’s bringing on board a wealth of in-depth knowledge that cuts across management, telecommunications, financial services, and emerging technology.

Before joining Finserve, he held various positions at Stanbic Bank and NIC Bank. He also spent seven years at British Telecom with assignments in the U.K., Peru, and Japan.

Academically, he holds a Master’s degree in management from Harvard University, a Master’s degree in Advanced Computer Science and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Leicester.

What you should know: The ADC centre was set up to help Microsoft grow its market share across the continent in the wake of increased technology uptake in various economic sectors. The centre would work with local engineers who would be tasked with churning out cutting-edge technology tailored for the local and global markets.

Prior to Ngare’s appointment, the American tech giant had in May 2019, selected ten Nigerian software engineers as its newly-launched Lagos Development Centre, was ready to swing into full operations.
