Enugu govt. to build over 250 smart schools across 260 wards in 14 months

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has revealed that his administration will build over 250 smart schools across the 260 wards of the state to ensure that the poorest child in the remotest part state receives world-class education using tools of the 21st century.

The governor said that the state has completed the construction of one smart school and that a contract has been awarded for nine more to be constructed. Mbah further revealed that an additional 250 smart schools would be constructed across the state in less than 14 months.

Governor Mbah made this announcement while delivering his keynote address at the convocation ceremony of the Enugu State University of Technology, Esut, in Agbani on Saturday.

The governor reiterated the significance of education in boosting the current Gross Domestic Product of Enugu State of $4.4 billion to $30 billion by 2031, adding that 30 percent of the 2024 budget for the state had been earmarked for education.

Features of the smart schools

According to the Enugu State governor, each of the smart schools that will be constructed across the state will be equipped with internet access, solar power, and a modern ICT center.

In addition, each smart school will have a centre for robotics and artificial intelligence, two well-equipped laboratories for primary school and junior secondary school, a studio for creative production, 25 inclusive classrooms, with interactive digital whiteboards, android tablets for pupils’ use, among others.

Governor Mbah also disclosed that the teachers who will pilot the affairs of the model smart schools in Enugu State were currently undergoing training by global experts.
