The Lagos State Government has announced the diversion of traffic at Apapa road in Oyingbo part of the state for a period of 2 months.
The traffic diversion which is in continuation of the ongoing Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Redline Project Phase 1, is expected to take effect from Tuesday, November 16, 2021, to Tuesday, January 11, 2022.
This disclosure is contained in a statement signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, who explained that the diversion will necessitate a partial closure of the road for the commencement of construction of Oyingbo Overpass.
Oladeinde assured that alternative routes have been mapped out for motorists and road users as well as revealed that the traffic flow on Apapa Road will be eased with the provision of temporary lanes for motorists during the construction period.
The Commissioner also noted that traffic on Murtala Mohammed Way will be diverted from Abeokuta Street to link Borno Way inwards Coates Street to access Murtala Mohammed Way, adding that motorists will be able to access Cemetery Street from Abeokuta Street.
Oladeinde stressed that there will be no inbound and outbound traffic from Ibadan Street, Ondo Street and Jebba Street, maintaining that Borno Way will serve as an alternative route as well.
The Transport Commissioner reassured that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be available to complement the signs mounted along the routes to guide motorists and minimise any form of inconvenience.
While soliciting the cooperation of motorists towards the success of the project, he reiterated the commitment of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration towards the development of transport infrastructure within the metropolis, adding that a Multi-Modal Transportation System will boost the economic prowess of the citizenry and the State at large.

Recall that almost 2 weeks ago, the Lagos State Government announced traffic diversion at Kayode Ogunmokun road in Mushin for a period of 6 weeks in continuation of the first phase of the Lagos Red Line Rail Mass Transit project from Oyingbo to Agbado.
The 37 kilometre Red Line rail project which was flagged off by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in April 2021, is expected to be fully operational in the last quarter of 2022 and will have 8 train stations from Agbado to Oyingbo.
The Red Line is part of the state government’s vision of an integrated multimodal transportation system contained in the State’s Strategic Transport Master Plan (STMP), developed by LAMATA, which aims ultimately to birth a world-class transportation network that will support the state’s profile, as the economic capital of Nigeria and Africa.
