As cases begin to surge across the country, the Lagos State Government has said it will resume the administration of the second dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on August 30.

Mr Tunbosun Ogunbanwo, Director, Public Affairs in the state Ministry of Health, said this in a statement on Sunday in Lagos.

The Director stated that administration of the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine would hold across the 88 vaccination sites used during the first phase of the vaccination exercise which would last for 20 days, from August 30 to September 24.

He said that only persons who had received the first shot of the vaccine during the first phase of the AstraZeneca vaccination exercise in the state were eligible for the exercise.

Eligible persons are advised to present their vaccination cards at the vaccination sites to get vaccinated as they do not require E-registration.

“There is no need for e-registration for this category of people,” he said.

Furthermore, the Director warned against mixing one brand of vaccine with another brand, stating that, “The Lagos State Government is working with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, to ensure that there is no confusion on which vaccines will be given to whom.”

In addition, Mr Ogunbanwo noted that the AstraZeneca and Moderna vaccines are safe and effective against severe illness and death from COVID-19 variants including the Delta variant, and advised residents to get all recommended vaccine doses to enhance protection against the virus.
