Insecurity: Zamfara State to work with FG on resettling IDPs

The Zamfara State Government has disclosed that it will work with the Federal Government and National Commission for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to resettle all IDPs in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement by Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, signed and made available to newsmen in Gusau on Sunday after the Governor hosted the National Commissioner for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Hajiya Iman Suleiman.

Matawalle said his administration “will continue to support vulnerable people and will not relent in its efforts to improve their living standard of persons despite the security challenges facing the state and the nation in general”

The Governor stated that his administration is prepared to collaborate with the commission on resettling all the affected communities in the state to appropriate places through the state Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

He added that Zamfara State on its part is working to improve the welfare of the IDPs including spending a lot in the provision of assorted food and medicament to IDPs in the state.

Nairametrics reported earlier this month that Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the Kuchigoro Camp, Abuja have urged the Federal Government to implement a rehabilitation scheme for them like it did for repentant Boko Haram members and Niger Delta militants.

Mr Luka Yathuma, the Secretary of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the Kuchigoro Camp, Abuja stated that it is only normal for the government to consider the IDPs for rehabilitation especially since the government is making efforts to rehabilitate the people and groups who put them in the unfortunate position in the first place.
