The Nigerian stock market trades bullish on Wednesday

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) ended Wednesday’s trading session in positive territory. The All-Share Index closed at 27,681.61 basis points, up by 1%.

Top Gainers

Ecobank Transnational Inc was the best-performing stock today. The stock gained 10% to close at N8.8. Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc gained 6.53% to close at N39.95. Guaranty Trust Bank Plc gained 4.56% to close at N29.8. Lafarge Africa Plc also gained 4.08% to close at N15.3. MTN Nigeria Plc rounded off the top five gainers for today. The stock gained 0.72. close at N140.

Top Losers

On the flip side, Champion Breweries Plc was the worst-performing stock, declining by 8.80% to close at N1.14. Forte Oil Plc fell by 2.14% to close at N16. FBN Holdings Plc fell by 0.92% to close at N5.4. Custodian and Allied Insurance Plc fell by 0.83% to close at N5.95. United Bank of Africa Plc rounded off the top five losers for the day. The stock shed 0.78% to close at N6.35.

Top Trades by Volume

Guaranty Trust Bank Plc was the most actively-traded stock today. 98.4 million shares valued at N2.8 billion were traded in 247 deals. Access Bank Plc was next with 40.7 million shares valued at N314.4 million traded in 421 deals, followed by FBN Holdings Plc with 40 million shares valued at N216.6 million traded in 369 deals.

FCMB Plc was next with 20 million shares valued at N33.8 million traded in 145 deals. Sterling Bank Plc rounded off the top five most actively traded stocks today with 17.5 million shares valued at N38.8 million traded in 113 deals.

Corporate Action

The Management and the Board of Directors of International Breweries Plc announced the appointment of Tolulope Adedeji as a Director. The brewer, in a statement made available to the public, disclosed that Adedeji’s appointment took effect from Wednesday, September 18, 2019.
