Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, Will be closed between February and March 2017

Nigerians who plan traveling by air should carefully consider their plans if it involves the Abuja airport. This is because the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, will be closed between February and March next year, Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, has disclosed. As such, no flights will be allowed in or out from the airport for the duration.

The reason for the closure was given by the Minister, who said major reconstruction work on the on the badly damaged airport runway would be taking place during those months by Julius Berger, a construction company.

Although the reconstruction work is expected to take the better part of six months, as reported by The Nation, the airport will only be shut for six weeks, between February and March, 2017 when the mid- section of the runway would be reconstructed.

Thus, it is important for those who regularly travel by air to consider alternative routes during this period in order not to get stranded. It is hoped that the planned reconstruction of the runaway will make for smoother flights and improved safety of air travel.
