Update: Kaduna state governor, El-Rufai tests positive to coronavirus

The Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has tested positive to the coronavirus disease.

El-Rufai disclosed this himself through a video that was posted on his verified twitter handle this Saturday evening and happens to be the first case so far in Kaduna State.

El-Rufai has become the latest high profile public officer to have tested positive to the dreaded coronavirus disease as he joins the likes of Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed and the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, who have been reported earlier to have contracted the disease.

The Governor, who said in his statement that he submitted the sample for the coronavirus test earlier this week and the result came out positive on Saturday, March 28, disclosed that he would be going into self-isolation, as it is the standard guideline prescribed by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control.

In his statement on twitter, El-Rufai said, ”Earlier this week, I submitted a sample for the Covid-19 test”. The result came in this evening and i regret to say that it is positive.

”According to the protocols for managing covid-19, i am in self-isolation as required by the case management guidelines issued by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for someone that is showing no symptoms”.

”I wish to appeal to the people of Kaduna State to continue to closely observe the preventive measures already announced by our government.  It is most important that everyone should do there utmost to stay safe, stay home and stay alive”, he said

However,EL-Rufai, informed the public that the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe will be in charge of the state’s task force on covid-19.

He also disclosed that the Deputy Governor would continue to issue statements from time to time as there are new developments and as the need arises.
