Standard Chartered: Easy Banking at no cost

Lamin Manjang, CEO Standard Chartered Bank

The Standard Chartered Bank has launched a series of mobile banking services to provide free and simpler banking services for new and existing customers.

These services range from free card withdrawals, free debit card insurance, free SMS alerts and monthly statements. Customers receive instant notifications for free when transactions occur in their accounts.

The bank also launched the SC mobile banking app 2.0 in December 2019, allowing customers to do over 75 kinds of transactions from their mobile device. Existing customers can upgrade to the SC mobile banking app and enjoy all of these free services.

According to the statement from the bank, opening an instant account is broken into seven easy steps which can be done from a mobile device. As soon as the app is downloaded, the customer taps “Open Account”, provides the required contact details which include the 11-digit Bank Verification Number.

The customer also has to provide the 6-digits OTP sent to the mobile number, and upload a valid identity card and signature. After reviewing and accepting the Terms and Conditions, the request is submitted. The account will then be created and the details sent to the email address and mobile number.

Customers can also upgrade the instant account to Instant Plus Account, Regular Savings Account or Salary Account, to enjoy higher transaction limits.

With the upgraded account, customers can request for a free card and get it delivered to any address in Nigeria at no cost.

The SC mobile app also allows customers to pay for goods and services using the QR Pay by scanning QR barcodes at selected merchant stores and websites.

Customers are to set up the SC Mobile Key (Transaction PIN) – a virtual security token which securely authenticates login and transactions without the need for Hardware Token or SMS OTP.

Investment-on-the-go has been made possible with the SC mobile app, as the investment tab allows customers to buy and sell global mutual funds at any time. They can also fix deposits using the app, and receive alerts when the deposits mature.

“At Standard Chartered, we understand that we all live busy lives, so we have designed and developed a faster account management solution,” the bank stated.

Unlike other apps, the SC mobile app allows customers to personalise their accounts by adding a nickname, or ‘selfie’ photos.

Customers also get to enjoy speedy fund transfers in 30 seconds, quick access to loans and credit services, improved dealer offerings for payment of utility bills, international fund transfers, and cardless cash withdrawals from standard chartered bank, Nigeria ATMs.
