Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc, otherwise known as Sokoto Cement, has been one of the best performing Nigerian stocks of the year. The company has a year to date return of 205.26%.
It has also recorded some relatively good financial results in recent times. The company earned about N5.3 billion in the first quarter of 2018, with a profit after tax of N1, 083, 572, 033. It also recorded some N4.2 billion as profit after tax for the year ended December, a 157% increase in profit compared to the preceding year which saw the company report N1.2 billion.

His educational background
Born in 1968 in Northern Nigeria, Ibrahim Aminu had his primary, secondary and University education in Nigeria. In 1990, he graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria with a B.Sc. in Accounting. He holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the Usman Dan Fodio University in Sokoto. Aminu has also attended the Harvard Business School where he underwent the Executive Education programme. He also attended the London School of Business and Finance, as well as IMD Business School.
Aminu is a member of different organisations including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), and a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (United Kingdom).
About his professional life
Alhaji Ibrahim started off his professional career working at First Bank Nigeria during his National Youth Service. Upon completing his national service, he worked as an Account Officer with the Federal Civil Service Commission in 1991. By 1992, he was working as a Supervisor of Finance at Nigeria Universal Bank, Kaduna. He would later move to the Abuja office of the bank where he worked till 1998.
He was a Manager of Finance at the now-defunct Nigerian Telecommunications Ltd (NITEL) between 1998 and 2008. He joined BUA Flour Mills in 2009 as a Finance Controller. He later moved to the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc in 2010 where he served as a Financial Director until 2011.
By 2013, Aminu had become an Executive Director of Finance at the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc, a position he held until December 2015. Afterward, he became an Acting Managing Director of the company. He was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the company in 2015.
Without a doubt, the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria has so far witnessed growth and profitability under the leadership of Alhaji Aminu. It is left to be seen whether this trend can be sustained as he continues to steer the course of the Nigerian company.
