MTN Says “Sacked” Employees Have Been Converted To “Partners”

MTN Nigeria has explained that 232 out of the 252 of its former engineers, who transferred their services to Ericsson and Huawei on Tuesday, have moved from being its employees to partners. The company said in a statement signed by its General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Funmi Onajide,

“Under the Managed Services contract, certain technical functions carried out by MTN have been outsourced. Under this arrangement, 232 MTN engineers have moved to Ericsson and Huawei to resume as new employees.

“In their new capacity, they will handle the management, optimisation and field maintenance of MTN’s network infrastructure, and in the process, continue to play a significant role in building a more efficient network for MTN. This is a unique transition where staff move from being MTN employees to becoming MTN partners.”

She said that as part of the arrangement, the company provided very attractive compensation packages for all the affected engineers, while ensuring through the signed contract that those moving to the specified vendors did so under similar terms and conditions.

Onajide added, “The vendors have also provided attractive sign on bonuses to members of staff transiting from MTN and there is every indication that the members of staff are thrilled by their packages and the new opportunities placed before them of moving from MTN to huge global companies that offer them a myriad of opportunities to serve in Nigeria and beyond.

“MTN engineers possess superior skills that make them extremely attractive and it is anticipated that their career trajectory in those companies will be stellar.”
