The Chief Executive Officer of The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Mr. Oscar N. Onyema, OON, was recently inducted as an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) of Nigeria. The induction ceremony was held at the Nigerian Stock Exchange House, Lagos.
Mr. Onyema has become the first CEO of the Exchange to be inducted as an associate member after passing the requisite examination of the institute.
About Oscar Onyema
Oscar Onyema holds a B.Sc Computer Engineering degree from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife which he obtained in 1991 and an MBA, Finance and Investments, Ziklin School of Business, Baruch College, New York in 1998. He is also an alumni of the Harvard Business School’s Advance Management Programme which he completed in 2015.
Prior to his appointment as CEO of the Nigerian Stock Exchange in April 2011, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at American Stock Exchange (Amex). He also ran the NYSE Amex equity business after the merger of NYSE Euronext and Amex in 2008.
He holds the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) which he was awarded in 2014. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Directors (IOD)
The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) is an Institute chartered by Act of parliament of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1992 with the responsibility of providing professional qualification for Stockbrokers and other Securities and Investment professionals.
The CIS regulates the activities of over 15,000 members (students, associates, fellows and graduates, Stock Marketing Agent, diploma, e.t.c.). The Institute also processes and manages registration of its members, examination, financial and legal information in order to achieve its objectives.
CIS is the body statutorily empowered to train and certify professionals in the Nigerian capital market. It is the only professional body in Nigeria authorized to carry out qualifying examinations into the stockbroking profession.
