Microsoft Ventures is the Venture Capital arm of Microsoft with a mandate to fund startups particularly in Africa. In a CNBC video call, the Microsoft’s director of venture capital and start-ups for Africa initiatives Amrote Abdella told CNBC Africa that the company is now renewing structures to improve their involvement with Startups. She outlined the following steps
“Our first focus is actually making sure that this time around we are focusing on providing them [with] structure for getting the support – the technical support, the design expertise and the mentorship so that these start-ups can go from conception to creation,”
“The next phase that we’re actively looking at is actually securing funding and actively working with local VCs, but also global VCs that are looking at investing in Africa.”
“The second [phase] is for us to look actively at the top graduating start-ups that are coming out of the programme and providing them with seed funding, so that they can go on to securing the second and third round investment as they look and growing and scaling, and going from being local to regional and ideally, global.”
