Tech giant google has introduced Datally, an app that will enable customers manage their data subscriptions more effectively. The app is targeted towards emerging markets such as Nigeria and the Phillipines where internet access is relatively expensove.
How does it work ?
Datally can be downloaded on  phones running on the android 5.0 Lollipop or newer. The app notifies the user how much data each app uses, and gives them the option of turning them off. Data usage can also be viewed on an hourly, daily, weekly and monthly basis. In addition, Datally notifies users if a public wifi network is available. Users can then decide to turn off apps that are consuming data, if need be. Datally also has a btutton stopping background apps so only an app being used onscreen is active.
How Google benefits
While users will be able to manage their data more effectively, Google gets access to user data such as which apps are commony used by users, how much data they consume and when. This enables Google design products that are better suited to user needs. Indirectly, this enables the company make more revenue.
