Following a video which has since gone viral on the internet, Fidelity Bank has released a CCTV footage to debunk the widely-circulated news of its bank officials assaulting customers.
In the viral video, it was alleged that two customers came into the bank to complain about the bank’s automated teller machine (ATM) services, but were beaten by security guards on the order of a branch manager in the Alagbado area of Lagos State.
The incident which set the social media space on fire, happened on Thursday, August 9, 2018.
Contrary to the news that went viral on the incident, the bank in a statement made available to the public through its Twitter handle, debunked the news.
According to the commercial bank, the two individuals were suspected of trying to steal a customer card details at the bank’s ATM as against the viral reports.
The bank’s statement reads; “The two individuals featured in the video were suspected of ‘shoulder surfing’ to steal customer card details at the ATM. The security personnel on duty interceded and they attacked and injured him before the intervention of the Mobile Policemen who were seen in the video.
“No Fidelity Bank official ordered any violence against customers as alleged and there was no incidence of the Branch ATM not dispensing cash. The matter has been reported to the Police and the suspects have been handed over for prosecution.”
The released footage didn’t sit well with angry Nigerians as they unanimously alleged that Fidelity Bank doctored the footage.

The clip has been edited.
In the court of public opinion which you have brought this case, we think you are hiding evidence. Why did the video skip?
We could see two fighting…
