Newly appointed Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside on Wednesday, has formally resumed work at the agency’s headquarters in Lagos.
Peterside took over from Mr Haruna Jauro, the former Acting Director – General.
The new D-G said that the agency had competent personnel to drive the mandate of the agency.
According to Peterside, “We will harness the vast potential available in the agency in order to make Nigeria a maritime hub in the West and Central Africa sub-region,’’
This would be done by implementing all international laws and conventions; “increased enforcement of our mandate and build the necessary capacity for indigenous operators leveraging on the Cabotage Act’’.
President Muhammadu Buhari had appointed Dr. Dakuku Peterside earlier this month as Director – General of NIMASA.
Peterside was the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Party, (APC) in Rivers State.
