The Federal Government has started constructing the 700-kilometer Lagos – Calabar Coastal Highway, designed to extend through 9 states with two spurs leading to the Northern States.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during the official handover of the first phase, which includes a 47.47-kilometer dual carriageway, to Hitech Construction Company Ltd.
Umahi revealed that the road would be built using concrete pavement.
He also mentioned that since the Federal Government awarded the contract, Hitech Construction Company Limited has made significant progress, completing 1.3 kilometres of the required filling.
- He said: “They have completed some filling of 1.3 kilometres from the day the project was awarded to them. It shows the speed they are going to deploy this project. Within a couple of weeks, we awarded the project to them, they mobilized a lot of dredging equipment, and you can see that they have recovered 1.3 kilometers of section one of the phase.”
Backstory
- Nairametrics recently reported that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the construction of phase one of the 700-kilometer Lagos – Calabar Coastal highway to Hitech Construction Company Ltd. Phase one of the superhighway project stretches for 47.47 kilometres, starting from Lagos.
- The 700-kilometer Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project is designed to connect Lagos to Cross River, passing through the coastal states of Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom, before culminating in Cross River.
- Nairametrics also reported that the Federal Government, represented by Works Minister David Umahi, recently sought funding from the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the segment of the Lagos-Calabar Superhighway located within Nigeria.
- Mike Salawou, AfDB’s Director of Infrastructure and Urban Development, who led the bank’s delegation on a working visit to the Works Minister, assured that the African Development Bank was ready to provide both financial and technical support to ensure Nigeria achieves its road development goals.
This is another project that would simply use NIGER DELTA wealth to construct another huge highway for Yoruba states. Everyone knows they can not construct any coastal road from Ondo through Delta , Bayelsa to Rivers due to large wide rivers and creeks . This Scam should stop . Niger delta wealth is used only to develop Yoruba and Hausa land .
