President Bola Tinubu commissioned the 37-kilometre Lekki Deep Sea Port Access Road section linking the Dangote Refinery and Fertiliser Plant to Eleko Junction.

The project, financed by Dangote groups, through the Federal Government’s tax credit scheme, was officially commissioned on Thursday in the presence of governors, federal ministers, and top business leaders, including Aliko Dangote, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Femi Otedola, and Jim Ovia.

This section is part of a larger infrastructure project executed by Dangote Group that extends through Epe to the Sagamu–Benin Expressway, forming a continuous logistics corridor from the Lekki Deep Sea Port into southwestern Nigeria.

Tinubu praised the quality of the work done by Dangote Industries Limited and Hi-Tech Construction Company Limited, highlighting the success of the tax credit program in fast-tracking critical infrastructure. The road features reinforced concrete pavement designed to endure heavy industrial traffic.

“I’m delighted to be here today to commission another landmark project, the Lekki Deep Sea Port Access Road and the bridges,” the President said. He added,

“I commend the quality of the access road done by Dangote Industries Limited on a tax-credit road. The program is successful, and thanks to Messrs Hi-Tech Construction Company Limited. It is a pleasure to commission this road. It is, therefore, my pleasure to commission this road, the Lekki Deep Sea Port Access Road.”

The Federal Executive Council had, in September 2024, approved N158 billion in tax credits for Dangote to execute the project. It is one of nine major infrastructure projects Dangote is undertaking under the scheme, where it holds the largest share compared to other participating firms such as BUA Group and MTN.

More insights

President Tinubu provided updates on other projects under his administration’s infrastructure agenda. He noted significant progress on Section 2 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, stating that over 10 kilometres of the 65-kilometre stretch had already been completed.

  • He added that construction was ongoing on the Cross River and Akwa Ibom segments and directed that more sections be designed and procured to sustain the pace of delivery.
  • He also spoke about the Trans-Saharan Trade Road project, describing it as a visionary effort to reconnect Calabar to Abuja through Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi, and Nasarawa states.

In the same vein, he announced that he had ordered accelerated design work for the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe corridor to enable early procurement. He made it clear there should be no further requests for rescoping, instructing those responsible to “just do the job.”
